January's N.OC Midsingles activity

The monthly (3rd Saturday) Midsingles activities of N.OC are changing for 2012. For odd months (Jan/Mar/May/Jul/Sep/Nov), we are foregoing having a local activity, and instead, encouraging attendance at the large, regional Midsingles activity held at the Pasadena Stake Center. This month's activity in Pasadena will be Saturday, January 28, at 6:30pm. It will be a dinner (In-N-Out catered) with socializing games and entertainment. See the flyer to the left. Note that it is the 4th Saturday, rather than our typical 3rd Saturday timeslot.

For even months (Feb/Apr/Jun/Aug/Oct/Dec), our 3rd Saturday N.OC activities are under consideration to be expanded to all OC, not just N.OC, by a new planning committee either in the OCBC council or the Lake Ward. Whichever the case, it will be a good thing: better supported and attended activities. So stay tuned.

December's N.OC Midsingles activity

December's N.OC Midsingles activity, on Saturday December 16, is being hosted by Long Beach-East. It will be a repeat of our past-year December activities: viewing the holiday lights along the Naples canals of Long Beach. The start time will be 6:30pm at the CSULB Institute building, where pizza, drinks, & holiday treats will be provided! At 7:15pm carpooling to the lights will begin. Be sure and wear warm clothing, as it often gets breezy & cold. And the evening will end back at the Institute at 9:00pm for games, snacks, socializing, and hot cocoa.

The CSULB Institute address is: 6360 E. State University Dr., Long Beach, CA 90815. The directions are: From the 405 fwy, exit Palo Verde going South. Palo Verde will dead end into State University at a Stop Sign. Make a Right on State University, the institute will be on your left.

November's N.OC Midsingles activity

As you know, for the past several years we have been providing monthly Midsingles activities for the stakes of the N.OC area. Some changes have just recently occurred, and some more changes are coming. First, the Midsingles of Orange Stake have been asked to attend and support the singles ward in Irvine (Lake Ward). Second, the Midsingles of Cypress & LB-E. have been asked to begin supporting huge regional Midsingles activities (within the 6 mission boundaries surounding OC) which may sometimes occur on our customary 3rd Saturday. So, the future of our 3rd Saturday N.OC Midsingles activities is under review. We will keep you posted on how things change.

As for this month's activity, we have decided to forego our usual locally-hosted activity, and lend our support to the huge 6-mission regional activity, which is THIS Saturday. This is a new endeavor, under the direction of Elder William Reynolds' (Area Seventy), and will be held at the same SoCal central location every-other-month: Pasadena. These huge activities will be: Jan-Mar-May-Jul-Sep-Nov, and will bring together hundreds of Midsingles from all over the 6 mission boundaries: LB/LA/SanFern/Arcadia/SanBern/Riverside. October's N.OC Midsingles activity will be SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15, 6:30pm, hosted by the Anaheim-East Stake. Dust off your Halloween Costume and join us for a thrilling Mid-Singles Halloween Party!! We’ll have fun, food (light dinner), dessert, karaoke, music, dancing, games, costume contest, movies…just an overall fun and spooky time!!! See the attached flyer. NEW: we now have a facebook page! September's Midsingles activity

September's N.OC Midsingles activity will be THIS SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 6pm. It will be a terrific "sunset walk" in Newport Beach's "Back Bay" Nature Preserve. Although this activity is, like last month, not in the N.OC area, it is well worth the drive or carpool; the scenery is beautiful!

August's Midsingles activity: Newport Western BBQ!

For our August N.OC Midsingles activity, we're "heading south!" Typically we hold our monthly activities in the N.OC area. But this month, our fellow-Midsingles southward (in the Newport Beach 1st Ward) are having a HUGE Midsingles event: a rip-roaring country-western BBQ/squaredance roundup! Its even being held at an actual former ranch. It will be this coming Saturday, August 20, 2011, and will run from 6pm-11pm. There will be BBQ food, horseshoe throwing, group games, square dancing, and more. Country western attire is encouraged. (And later at night, there will be a DJ for regular contemporary dancing too). The organizers are asking for a $10 donation to cover the costs, but no one will be turned away. We look forward to seeing you there!

July's Midsingles activity: Cypress live outdoor concert

WHAT: July's N.OC Midsingles activity will be Saturday, July 16, starting at 6:00pm. It will again be enjoying the live tunes at the Cypress Civic Center's "Concert on the Green." This year's live music will be Swing & Big Band music. The Mike Henebry Orchestra will be playing, sporting works by Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, Harry James, Woody Herman, etc. The band recreates the sound of what is generally considered to be the very best American popular music to date. You'll be able to find us on the lawn by our helium balloon bouquet. Bring your own lawnchairs, blankets. We'll have some snacks & drinks, but feel free to bring your own, too.

June's Midsingles activity: Downtown Disney strolling!

WHAT: Downtown Disney is a great spot for nighttime strolling! They have live musicians along the walk that you can enjoy all night long. First, we’ll meet in the Downtown Disney parking lot and have a tailgate gathering of appetizers: chips & dip, fruit & veggies, cookies, & more. Just look for colorful helium balloons in the parking lot (the east side of the lot…closest to the Rainforest Café). After some snacking & socializing, we’ll enter Downtown Disney walk and enjoy the evening tunes.

May's Midsingles Activity: 80's Dance

May's N.OC Midsingles activity will NOT be on our usual 3rd-Saturday-of-the-month. Instead, it will be Saturday, May 14. We will be joining all 16 stakes of Orange County for the quarterly regional OC all-Single-Adult (31+) dance. It will be held at the Anaheim Stake Center (440 N. Loara, Anaheim, CA) from 8pm to 12midnight. Although not Midsingle only, there will be LOTS of Midsingles in attendance, from all over the county and neighboring counties. Also, there will be more than dancing, if dancing isn't your thing. There will be a karaoke room, game room, speed-dating room, live-performer lounge, and more. Some come socialize and have fun! We'll return to our regularly scheduled 3rd-Saturday activity in June (June 18).

WHAT: Anaheim East Stake is hosting this month’s activity! It will be this Saturday, April 16 at 7:30pm, and will be a big-screen backyard movie under the stars! This will be at a ward member’s home in Anaheim Hills. Cozy up under the stars near the fire pit...have fun with indoor & outdoor games…or just hang out & chat. There will be something for everyone! January's N.OC Midsingles activity will be this coming Saturday---January 15th, 6:00-9:00pm. It is being hosted by Cypress Stake, and will be an 80's party! Break out the Aqua Net! We'll be celebrating the days when more was better – more bracelets, more make-up, big hair, puffy sleeves, more neon & more socks! So put on your acid washed jeans, bring your Rubik’s Cube, and join us for a totally tubular evening with music, games, and movies from the 80s. There will be prizes for the best 80s outfits. We will meet at the Cal State Long Beach Institute for a quick and casual pizza dinner. Then, we will carpool to Naples Island to walk the canals and enjoy the Christmas lights and festive atmosphere. There will be plenty of hot chocolate to keep you warm and toasty, but make sure you bundle up – it can get cold! After, join us back at the Cal State Long Beach Institute for games (ping pong, cards, board games, etc.) and leftover pizza! Nothing says Christmas like leftover pizza, right?!

Temple Visitors’ Center was recently renovated, so we’ll be checking out the new exhibits & multimedia, and maybe watch a church video in one of their mini-theaters. September's N.OC Midsingles activity will be THIS COMING SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 7-10pm.

Remember those cute, corny, but always meaningful church commercials from the 1970’s & 80’s? Well, come enjoy them all over again! We’ll be seeing them, all compiled one after another, on video. (Trivia: can you identify the boy actor in the 80’s ad, above?) Plus we’ll see the newer crop of YouTube “MormonAds”, like here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jds1QZrJq1Y&feature=channel And no commercial-watching is complete without snacks! So we’ll have popcorn, snacks, and soda. Then, we’ll break out some camcorders, and make some humorous ads of our own! (Not an actor? No prob; you can be on the judging panel instead!) Although the 3rd Saturday of the month is the usual N.OC Midsingles activity night, for July, we will instead be making our activity the ORANGE COUNTY SINGLE ADULTS CONFERENCE, JULY 29-AUG 1. This is going to be a fantastic event, with over 400 LDS Single Adults already registered. June Midsingles activity: Cypress outdoor concert!

June's Midsingles activity is approaching! Cypress stake is hosting it, and it will be Saturday, June 12, 6:00-8:00pm. It will be a relaxing "concert on the green" at the Cypress Civic Center (5275 Orange Ave., Cypress, CA 90630). This is a public, community event, but you'll be able to find us amid the crowds by looking for the silver & gold helium balloons in the air. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, plus any snacks to munch on (water/drinks will be provided). Then just sit back, relax, socialize, and enjoy the free concert.

May's N. OC Midsingles activity will be SATURDAY, May 15, 7:00pm at the Fullerton College Institute (444 E. Chapman Ave., Fullerton, CA 92832). This time, we'll be doing a fun service project: we’ll be assembling care packages to take to bishops in our respective stakes, to send to missionaries in the field. Every month we enjoy food, fun, & recreation with eachother, so this time, let's give back! Come join us in being part of an exciting assembly line to pack candy, nuts, snacks, cards, & more! If you have a missionary from your ward in the field, be sure to come (and bring his/her name) so we can earmark one of the packages for him or her!

Afterwards (at 8:30pm), we’ll adjourn to the all-OC 16-stake Single Adult Dinner/Entertainment/Dance being held at the Anaheim Stake Center (440 N Loara St, Anaheim, CA 92801). Although this is for all Single Adults (not just a Midsingle activity), it will be a big event (200+!), with plenty of Midsingles. Even if you don’t care for dancing, it will be fun: a full dinner and live entertainment.

We hope to see you for both parts of the eveing (7-8:30 in Fullerton, and 8:30-11pm in Anaheim).

Held at Fullerton College's LDS Institute. It is located at 444 E. Chapman Ave., Fullerton, CA 92832. It is right cross the street from Fullerton College. Directions: from the 57-fwy, exit Chapman Ave , go west about 3 miles. Or, from the 91-fwy, exit Harbor, go north 4 miles, then R. on Chapman, ½ mile more.

WHAT:

We will be repeating the very successful "Game Show Night" we had exactly one year ago, Jan 2009. At that time, we brought you Family Feud, $100,000 Pyramid, Jeopardy, and Pictionary. Now get ready for a whole new round of excitement: Name that Tune, Match Game, and Wheel of Fortune! If you're not big on participating, no prob...come anyway as a spectator! Plus, we'll be repeating our popular "board game" table in the middle of the room for all you board game enthusiasts (Scrabble, Sorry, Uno, Chutes&Ladders, CandyLand, etc.) And of course, we'll have our fabulous table of refreshments. We look forward to seeing you!

WHAT:
Meet at the CSULB institute to carpool over to the Naples Annual Christmas Boat Parade. The boats will be decorated for Christmas, playing music and oozing plenty of Christmas cheer! Dress warm! We will return to the CSULB institute after the boat parade for games (pool, ping-pong and Uno), goodies, hot chocolate & mingling.
WHEN/WHERE:
Saturday, December 19th
5:00pm meet at CSULB institute to carpool over to Naples by 5:30pm
7-7:30pm return to CSULB institute for games, goodies & mingling
DIRECTIONS:
From OC to CSULB Institute
Take the 22 West (becomes 7th Street)
Exit right at Studebaker
Turn left on Anaheim (becomes State University Dr.)
The institute is on the left after 2nd stop sign
